I want to sell some hats and scarvs over the internet but have no idea what is a fair price.
I do okay work but it is clearly hand done.
What would you pay or charge for your work?

Re: How much would you pay/charg?
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 6:18 AMI used to do that...unfortunately it was hard to sell the sets...I dont know why...Now when I was making the big floppy , funky felted hats...I sold them from 75.00-150.00, and people did not blink an eye...but crocheted hats and scarves, I could hardly sell..I would recommend going online and do some comparison shopping, and then look at your time and supplies involved...then come up with a price...Good Luck, selling your own designs is so much fun!

Re: How much would you pay/charg?
Tue, August 5, 2008 - 5:15 AMGigi has a great idea here. If your work is clearly handdone and you think that may turn some folks off, then learn the craft of felting. Once felted no one can see your mistakes. And a good felted hat with some funky embellishments are to die for. Just an idea...

Re: How much would you pay/charg?
Wed, August 6, 2008 - 8:34 AMI've never felted anything before. Is it very difficult? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that where you throw the hat in the washer with some jeans or something? Any advice or tips on how to do it?

Re: How much would you pay/charg?
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 8:03 AMContrary to popular belief hand made is expensive work. It is not perfect and it has a different appearance. You have to figure your yarn cost and the time, but on average I personally sell my hats for 40 dollars if they are already made and if I have to desing one as much as $ 65. These hats are two color Tapestry Crochet styke. If I was doing simple hats one color hats, I want to get the twice as much as the yarn costs. One color hats are usually sold for $10. -

Re: How much would you pay/charg?
Mon, February 2, 2009 - 7:05 AMI would recommend looking on Etsy for what items of comparable materials and time invested cost (obviously finer yarns will make for a more expensive piece). If the design is your own, the price should also be higher.
