I am a figure it out as you go type of person. But I've been asked to make a pattern for a neckwarmer I have on display at my local yarn shop... I don't use patterns and don't read patterns well. Any tips on making one that will be easy to read...

  • People who DO use patterns would probably like you to write it in "their style".

I can't read the stuff (now), but at one time my grandmother-in-law had shown me how, and I was reading it....
but that was sooo long ago now!

I do remember that it was important that they were all written kind of "the same".

It's a language, you know... and interested parties wanna see YOU know their language, too.
    • Hi...I am in the process of writing a pattern now, and the other poster was right, peple want it to be written in the language that most patterns use...I have been reading patterns since I was 7, and when I come across one that is not written in "the language" it is very frustrating...if you can find someone who can read patterns and have them make the piece with you, and write it as you go??? A neck warmenr cant be too much of a pattern to write? Good luck, Gigi
      • Thanks for the tips.
It's not a hard pattern, its like making a scarf only shorter with a buttonhole. The thing with this piece is that it is embellished with beads after it's finished. It looks a lot fancier and harder to make than it actually is.

  • I recently started writing patterns for the plastic bags project that I crochet. What I find works for me is to write down my steps as I make the project. I tend to write out everything detailed as I want people to know what I mean when I say to do something. Anyway if you'd like to go to my website at www.myrecycledbags.com you could look at my patterns directions. I do keep my projects fairly simple and I think my patterns are easy to read and understand. Hope this helps.
