  • You go girl!
    • YaY!!!
Granny squares were one of the first things I learned to crochet.
Its all gravy from there my mom used to say!

      • Unsu...

I can certainly relate. Crochet directions can drive you batty. I even had trouble making stars. Just look at photo of what you want to make and seeing the design and reading the directions should finally make sense-most times.
        • I tend to be a person that if there is no picture to go along with the pattern, I most likely WONT be crocheting it.
Unless it is something very easy or a consistant repetitive stich, pictures are a big key to the pattern.

I can usually follow pattern directions pretty well...
But I've come across some patterns that are just plain written wacky.
  • Cool!

I have plans to make a giant granny-square blanket for a friend. Not a blanket made from the squares, but made as one giant one. Wish me luck, as I have crochet ADD & can never seem to do large projects.
    • well good luck! I just didn't understand it. I can follow directions for almost anything, but a stupid granny square i couldn't do....lol oh well I'm all good now :)
    • My friend did one for her first project, I'd never thought to do it that way. Just followed the directions for the kind of granny square that starts in the middle & is worked in a round but she kept going until it was big enough to cover the bed. Now I want to do one of those! New project!!!
  • I am trying so damned hard to learn to crochet granny squares, but I am just not getting it. What I actually need is to go spend time with my granny. I saw her Saturday and Sunday, but she wasn't feeling really good. She is a lady who could crochet in her sleep! (by the time I'm her age, I'll be able to, too.) I know if I keep trying, I'll finally get it. But aren't the directions a little confusing?

Congratulations! It is a great feat you accomplished.
