Hi there,
My friend asked me to make him a Möbius loop scarf and he wants me to make him some ants to go on it like there are in this picture

So I'm looking for a pattern to crochet 2-3 inch long ants.
Anyone know where I can find one?

Re: Does anyone have a crochet pattern for a small ant?
Sun, March 9, 2008 - 11:49 AMi don't know specifically, but you could do a search for amigurumi -- crochetme.com did a feature on it many moons ago and if memory serves they give you pointers on how to create your own stuff. there are also LOADS of crocheters out there who have come up with their own patterns for pretty much every critter under the sun -- i've gotten a few myself from etsy.com.
that illustration is really cool! i hope you are able to find what you're looking for...

Re: Does anyone have a crochet pattern for a small ant?
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 10:21 PMhere's a lil pattern i just wiped up, just for you!
the ant ended up being 4" long, you could possibly use a smaller hook or a lighter gauge yarn. i used worsted weight acrylic and a size g hook. i actually have only made the body, but i've written instructions for the whole thing. let me know if it turns out ok, or if you have any questions. this is only the second time i've actually tried to write out a pattern.
=============================
ant
ww yarn
g hook
do not join rounds
r1: ch 2,(first chain should be *loose*), 6 sc in first ch. tighten once you've gotten all the stitches in the first loop. (6 sts)
r2: *sc 1, 2 sc in next st* repeat for round (9 sts)
r3: sc 9, (9 sts) =insert polyfill here=
r4: *sc 1, sc 2 tog* repeat for round (6 st)
r5: sc 2 tog, repeat for round (3 sts)
r6: 2sc in next sc, repeat for round, (6 sts)
r7: sc around (6 sts)
r8: repeat r7 =insert polyfill here=
r9: sc2 tog, repeat for round (3 sts)
r10: 2 sc in next sc, repeat for round, (6 sts)
r11: 2 sc in next sc, repeat for round, (12 sts)
r12: *sc 3, 2sc in next st*, repeat for round (15 sts)
r13: sc around , (15 st)
r14: repeat 13
r15: *sc 3, sc 2 tog*, repeat for round (12 sts) =insert polyfill here=
r16: *sc 2, sc 2 tog*, repeat for round (9 sts)
r17: sc around 9 sts
r18: *sc 1, sc 2 tog* repeat for round (6 sts)
leave long tail, weave in the remaining 6 sts and pull closed.
for the legs use pipecleaners. push it thru the appropriate spot in the body (the mid section). slip stitch along pipecleaner, ch when it submarines into the body and then continue to slip stich the other side. do this with the antannae. attach eyes.
voila!
==========
this pattern is dedicated to all the ants i've love before -
