I'm here to share a free crochet pattern to make a recycled plastic bag tote. It features a granny square stitch and is a great way to use up some of those pesky plastic bags we all have. Link is here www.myrecycledbags.com/2007/0...f-tote/

Re: Free Recycled Tote Bag Pattern
Mon, June 11, 2007 - 6:16 PMThese are actually pretty easy to make, and if you make them larger you can use them as re-usable grocery bags. I make the handles shorter. Definitely a greener alternative than just throwing them away.
You can also do large size "doilies" as entrance rugs out of plastic bags.
Anyone ever made anything other than rugs or accessories this way? Would love to hear about those as well.

Re: Free Recycled Tote Bag Pattern
Fri, August 10, 2007 - 5:04 AMI showed the link to a friend who weaves and she is going to try the idea! There is a rug made of bread wrappers at the Little Loom House in Louisville, KY, so why not use old VHS tapes? The bread wrapper rug has been hanging in the rafters for years. My friend recently made another for the gift shop.
What was the texture like to work with? -

Re: Free Recycled Tote Bag Pattern
Fri, August 10, 2007 - 7:20 PMAs far as texture, the plastic bag yarn isn't too bad to use. You get the hang of it pretty fast. As for vcr tape, now that's a bit harder. It tends to not slide very good while crocheting. I found that if I use a ribbon yarn or other material with it, it's much easier and your hook moves much better. With either one of these materials, just make sure to not try to pull too hard on your work. Hold your work lightly and it's a lot easier on your fingers and joints.
