you could start with the above pattern and babysize it.

Thanks for that leg warmer pattern. I'm giving it a go this evening.

Let me know how it goes, I would love to know how they turn out!

I'm not having good luck, for I am not exactly an advanced crocheter.
It's the first time I joined the chain with a slipt stitch and crochet in a circle, and I can't seem to get the 'seam' straight for the life of me.
I figure that it's a matter of not getting *one very important stitch* in the right spot, or else I start 'involuntarily increasing', which is what I figure I have done. Wish I had a helper here with me whenever I need it!

I'll keep trying to figure it out... If I get it, I'll post.
Oh, one other thing about the pattern. The pic shows the tighter single crochet at the top of the legwarmers as well as the bottom, but the pattern doesn't include that part. Am I wrong, or is it a faulty pattern?

no it doesn't include that, it just says repeat row 9 to length desired. if you want that, i'd measure the length of rows 1-8 of single crochet, then follow the pattern and add a repetition of rwos 1-8 at the end. So if that measures say 5 inches, then you complete your pattern to within 5 inches of where you want it and then finish the last five inches in single crochet.

As for the seaming - often when you are working in the round and joining, the seaming can get a bit funky, especially if there are any increases because it doesn't line up exactly all the time. If you want a different kind of seam or if you are worried about inadvertently increasing, you can always crochet the legwarmers like you would a scarf (row by row) and then just seam them up at the end.

              Brilliant! Thanks for the idea.

...though, I've put the project down for now. I must learn how to do it-- properly.
If anyone in L.A. could help me figure it out, I'd be ever-so-grateful...?
The pattern is marked as 'easy', so I'm determined to figure it out.
Worse case scenario, I make an appointment with the fabulous lady that taught me basic crochet in the first place.

If anyone else tries crocheting leg warmers, would you please post here?
I was also sort of thinking of thigh-hi things that I could clip with garter belt straps-- as 'costume pieces'. They would run the length from my thighs to about a normal pants-length. What do you think?

you can also try those knifty knitters! that is so easy for someone who knows how to crochet.....and they make it round!
I'm not sure they make a diameter small enough for babies, but you could check it out

Yeah, they're knitting looms, they come in 3 or 4 different round sizes and a few longer rectangle ones as well. They're super easy to use and good for hats and tube-like items. They're fun but not super challenging. I think most places that sell yarn & crafting supplies carry them.

Hello. I teach crochet, and while the step you are having problems with is considered easy, it is also one of the most complicated when you are a beginner. Even advanced crocheters have trouble with it at times.

Here are a few helpful hints:

count your stitiches after every round, if you don't have the right number of stitches, you know you did something wrong in that round.
put a stitch marker in the top of the first stitch so that you know exactly where to join and begin on the next round.

If you just can't stand joining every round, or if you don't like the way the joins look you can just crochet in the round. This is easier with single crochets than double crochets, but can be done. When crocheting in the round it is especially important to use stitch markers. Put them at the beginning of the round and where you are supposed to increase or decrease. That way there is no guess work. You may want to use different colored markers or different types, so that you don't forget what the different markers are for.

            Good luck!

              Sabrina- THANK YOU!!!
You give me the strength and hope and excellent advice to TRY AGAIN!
(My -attempt- at leg warmers heap is piled-up in the corner of my bedroom-- a heap of frustration) ;- )

                Sabrina's advice rocks!

I don't yet own any crochet stitch markers, so I used a safety pin to mark each row where I should join the next. I only had to do this for about half the project, because once my hands and eyes got used to the pattern, I was good on my own, knowing what each row should look like.

I finished the leg warmers!!! (ok, I didn't tie in the ends, as I have a serious problem with despising this little task)
Instead of leg warmers, though, I'm using them as boot covers.

You see, my most comfy pairs of black boots are actually just over ankle length, and so what I will do is this:
~ put on heavy boot socks
~ next, slip on 'leg warmers, with the tapered end just below my knee, just above the top of the thick socks
~ then the boots, and easily slip the leg warmer over the entire boots, with the length just grazing above the ground (well, a little higher, because I figure these babies will give after a bit of wash and wear.

Horray! I can have 'em in every color, and add my little crochet flowers or whatever suits my mood and costume.
Thanks for the help, hookers! ; )

Thank you, I am glad I could help you. Before I found out that someone actually made stitch markers I used all sorts of things. Safety pins, string, bobbie pins, scraps of paper... I hope you post a picture so we can see your leg warmers.
