Hi, everyone, I learned to crochet because I wanted to make stuff like this:

Particularly the shirt and dress. However, I'm having trouble finding patterns like this. Has anyone seen any similar patterns out there?

try searching pattern sites. Like About.com (the pop-up's suck though) And vintage crochet patters will be pretty close.

well it could get pricey, but you can buy one item and once you learn a variety of stitches, can make on in your own hand. thats what my great aunt used to kinda do. she'd hit garage sales and find doilies(sp?) and make them in all sorts of colors. (beautiful items that have inspired you btw)

I recently found this pattern website. It's sort of a hub - with links to many other website, but it's well organized.

I flipped through some really nice crochet books while I was at AC Moore the other day. If you sign up online they even send you a 40% or sometimes 50% coupon you can use in the store!

I really love the patterns from Rowan. They're so much more sophisticated than most of the stuff we get here in the U.S. Pricey, a little tricky (UK directions) but worth it. Plus their models are just so dang hot and interesting. Even if I never make something, it's great inspiration.
Here's their site:

And sometimes you can find their magazines and books at LYS.

Have you tried eBay? I've found all sorts of fun vintage crochet and knitting patterns for sweaters and other projects that are now back in fashion. You can pick up older patterns for just a couple dollars, including shipping. Just be sure that they are in good readable condition and include the supply list. Thrift shops and used book stores also often carry vintage crochet patterns in some really fun styles.
