So sorry sister crocheters! I had to pick up my knitting needles the other day. I made some baby pants (also called "longies") and it was so much fun! I posted some pics here:

But I am doing penance, I got my crochet hooks out today and started on some new potholders, lol!

  • I've been tempted..Donnie's mom gave me a 55 gal drum of yarn and I found a pair of knitting keedles in there, along with a few crochet hooks and a god-awful amount of yarn....I think maybe I died and when to hell or heaven can't decide which...right now it's hell cause it still sitting on my carport and I want it in here where I can get my hands on it.
  • i was just checking out longies the other day and wishing i knew how to knit so i could make some for myself... i also put my wee one in cloth diapers and these would be so great to have.

if you end up making more and want to sell any, give me a shout! you did a fantastic job -- i especially love the green ones.
    • There are some crochet patterns for longies! Good ones, too!

I'll post the links later, I'm at my mom-in-laws house right now and she has a Mac computer with a bizarre browser, its hard to search and view a lot of pages. Hopefully I can post them tonight, if I forget, send me a message and bug me about it!

      Peace,
      Salihah

P.S. That is so neat your babe is in cloth! I'm so glad for it with my babies
      • oh yay! i would LOVE that.

        :)
        • Hi Lola! Ok., I'm home! Here's the links:

The last one is a free pattern. I haven't tried any of them, but I've heard from many other moms that the first two are really good, I haven't heard anything about the free one yet.

          • I usually have at least one crochet project and at least one knitting project going on at the same time. I find that's best for me.
            • Me too!
              • i can't knit, i think its something to do with coordination

                crochet is my world

i have crap motor skills...i tried knitting donkeys years ago and basically made some sort of wonky scarf which went from fat to thick to giant holes in the middle...it was a piece of artwork!
                • So, I gave in and learned how to knit last friday. I have been co-teaching a fiber art elective at my kid's school and I did the crochet part of it. We are teaching a group of girls ranging from 7-12. So, we are on to the knitting portion, we made our own wooden needles and one of the 7 yr. olds decides she is gonna teach me how (most of the girls already know how to knit a bit because their moms do) She cast on for me and proceeded to show me the knit stitch. I struggled with what to do with the free yarn, it felt so odd to throw it over with my right hand! Then one of the moms said I cold hold it the same way I do for crochet and just pick my stitches. Holy cow, that made it so much easier. Pearling is a challenge, but I have been really working at it and am getting better.

I felt a little guilty setting down the hook and picking up the needles. But, I guess it's good to know how to do both. My heart belongs to crochet and I always seem to root for the underdog. So, I feel like I owe it to my Nana, who tought me how to crochet when I was little, and to everyone who has been working so hard to bring crochet back into vogue and give it a better reputation, to keep teaching people how great it is and showing them it isn't what they imagine it to be.

There really is some serious snobbery with some people who only knit. Even the other moms in my class kinda look down on it as the less sophisticated little sister in a way. Ya Know? There is one girl in my class who has just picked it up so wonderfully and run with it. She makes up her own patterns and seems so passionate about it, YEAH!!!

I just don't want to have to buy a ton of knitting needles now, too. I have far too many crochet hooks as it is!
                  • This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

That's how I knit, too. It's called Continental knitting, its a lot faster. If anyone wants to learn how, this is a great free online video:
www.knittinghelp.com/knittin...ndex.php Click the pink camera icon for continental instructions. She'll show you how to cast on, knit, purl...everything you need. Great website!

Yes, I know what you mean! There are definately yarn snobs out there. Don't let them bother you. Consider yourself double-blessed because you can crochet, too. Have you seen the book "Knitting Loves Crochet"? It's a good book to warm up cold-shouldered knitters to crochet, it has some fun stuff!

                    • I wish there was a Crochet Loves Knitting version. :-D My Stitch n Bitch friends have been trying to teach me to knit. Unfortunately, I only get through a few practice rows of knit & purl before I reappear at SnB with a hook in hand. I can't help it... I love crochet! I would like to learn to knit, but it just doesn't hold my attention because I suck at it. ;-) It's such a challenge just to learn to hold the needles correctly.
                      • I hope you all know how much I love crochet. Cause I do, but I was making a felted back that I ripped out twice cause it just was not turning out the way I wanted it to. So I am knitting it, and it is wonderful. YAY! Everyone in my stitching group is totolly shocked when they see me knitting. The usual response is, "oh my god Sabrina, your Knitting." Often with, "I didn't think you new how". I just laugh, yeah I know how to knit, and sometimes it is better for a project, but for me it will never replace crochet. I have already started crocheting some baby booties. Oh and good news I am teaching a bunch of crochet classes next month and in the months to come. Yay, for the spread of crochet!
  • I have a friend who does both and she just taught me to knit. The only reason I wanted to learn was to make things with more stretch like socks. I find that virtually anything else can be done with crochet which my Babi taught me when I was 7 or 8 and I picked up again a few years ago.
